The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Agartala centre has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Tripura over the next seven days, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning likely at isolated places during the first five days.
According to the evening weather bulletin issued on Saturday evening, rainfall activity is expected in many places across all districts of the state from May 23 to May 30. Thunderstorm and lightning warnings have been issued from May 23 to May 28.
The IMD has also predicted that both maximum and minimum temperatures in Tripura are likely to remain 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal during the next three to four days.
The weather department warned that strong winds and lightning may cause damage to plantations, horticulture crops, kutcha houses, power and communication lines, and may uproot trees, particularly banana and papaya plants.
People have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, unplug electrical appliances, stay away from water bodies, and suspend farming activities during adverse weather conditions.
The IMD has urged residents to use the “Mausam”, “Meghdoot”, and “Damini” mobile applications for location-specific forecasts, agrometeorological advisories, and lightning alerts.
