Tripura’s first commercial Coffee Common Facility Centre (CCFC) was formally inaugurated on Saturday afternoon at Sailapi village under Unakoti ADC Village, Gournagar Block in Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district. The state-of-the-art unit, set up by Growing Seed with support from SIDBI’s Agartala branch, is being viewed as a new milestone for Tripura’s emerging coffee industry.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Tripura’s Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare and Labour, Tinku Roy, as the chief guest. Among the special guests were Rajshekhar Hansda, Manager of SIDBI Agartala Branch; Sandip Das, Senior Liaison Officer of the Coffee Board; Nabarun Chakraborty, BDO of Gournagar Block; and several local coffee growers.
Speaking at the event, dignitaries highlighted the vast potential of coffee cultivation in Tripura. They said the newly established CCFC would play a crucial role in transforming coffee farming into a viable commercial industry. With modern facilities for coffee collection, processing and packaging now available locally, farmers are expected to gain new income opportunities and improved market access.
Representatives of Growing Seed, including Biswajit Nath, members of SIDBI, officials of the Coffee Board and NABARD, and a large number of coffee growers were also present, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Tinku Roy said, “If coffee cultivation can be expanded commercially, farmers will genuinely benefit. We should learn how small initiatives, like Amul and Lijjat Papad, can create a place in the global market.”
Earlier, the minister and other dignitaries visited the coffee plantation. Minister Roy assured farmers that the state government would extend all possible support for advancing coffee cultivation in the future.
During the ceremony, the dignitaries also unveiled the packaged coffee brand ‘Unakoti Heritage Coffee’. Coffee Board officials informed that the product has already started entering the market.
Organizers expressed confidence that the new Coffee Common Facility Centre at Sailapi, Kailashahar, will mark a significant new chapter in Tripura’s journey in the national coffee industry.
