Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey visited the historic Lord Shiva pilgrimage site Unakoti on Thursday as part of his two-day official tour to Unakoti district in Tripura.

The Union Minister reached the site in the  Thursday morning  and was accompanied by Unakoti District Magistrate (DM) Megha Jain, Additional District Magistrate (ADM)  Sagar Shobhan Debnath, Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bipul Das, Zilla Parishad member Bimal Kar, along with several other officials.

Durgadas Uikey arrived in Unakoti district on a two-day government visit. On Wednesday night, he stayed at the Circuit House in Kailashahar. On Thursday morning, he held a meeting with leaders of the Janajati Morcha at the conference hall of the Circuit House.

After the meeting, the Union Minister visited Unakoti and later inspected several developmental projects and attended departmental meetings in different tribal areas of the district throughout the day.

During his visit to the ancient pilgrimage site, the minister was reportedly mesmerized by the scenic beauty and heritage of Unakoti. After offering prayers at the idol of Lord Shiva at the foothills of the site, he spent more than an hour exploring the historic location.

Speaking with local media persons during the visit, Durgadas Uikey said that India is a sacred land of Gods and Goddesses and described Unakoti as one of the country’s prominent Shaivite pilgrimage destinations.

According to sources from the District Magistrate’s office, the Union Minister is scheduled to attend an organizational meeting with BJP leaders at the BJP Chandipur Mandal office in Srirampur area of Kailashahar on Friday. BJP Unakoti district president Bimal Kar, along with district and Mandal-level party leaders, are expected to remain present at the meeting.

After the party meeting on Friday, the Union Minister is expected to leave Unakoti district.
