Unique way of smuggling: Two smugglers arrested with govt official car stickers, Brown Sugar
The Agartala city police busted a drug smuggler racket involved with the transportation of synthetic drugs by using the official designation plates and car stickers of top government officials in cars and detained two drug smugglers with good quantities of Brown Sugar.
Giving details of the operation, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that in continuation of ‘anti-drug operations’ by Tripura police, much vital information has been received during interrogation of arrested drug paddlers and smugglers.
Based on such information, the East Agartala police led by OC Rana Chatterjee on Saturday intercepted a white colour car with official designation plates of two Tripura government officials from Mara Chowmuhani area near Bodhjung School and arrested two persons.
In the course of the search operation, police have recovered two packets of Brown Sugar weighing 24 grams from that car along with official designation plates of many government officials.
Roy added that during preliminary interrogation, two arrested drug smugglers identified as Kanu and Tapash Karmakar revealed that they were often using different official designation plates of government officials for transportation of their drug consignment in different parts of Agartala city to avoid police checking.
He said that official designation plates of two officials of Tripura Housing Corporation Limited (THCL), Urban Development department were recovered from the seized car and both arrested smugglers will be produced before a local court with police remand appeals for further interrogation.
Roy also said that a specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 registered and a police team started investigation to arrest other members of the gang, who were involved with transportation of drugs by using government official stickers and name plates.
The East Agartala police has also arrested a motor bike lifter and recovered a stolen motorbike from Jampuijala area under Sepahijala district.
