Amid tight security arrangements, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to visit Tripura University on March 8 to attend its 14th convocation ceremony.

Officials said elaborate security measures have been put in place across Agartala and other areas that the Vice-President will visit during his two-day tour of the region.

According to official sources, the Vice-President will first attend and address the 20th convocation of Mizoram University on March 7. On the following day, March 8, he will attend and address the 14th convocation of Tripura University.

A university official said the convocation ceremony could not be held over the past two years, 2024 and 2025.

During the ceremony, certificates, degrees, gold medals and PhD degrees will be conferred on eligible students. As many as 283 students from various departments will receive gold medals, while 149 research scholars will be awarded PhD degrees at the upcoming convocation.

The Vice-President will formally inaugurate the convocation ceremony at the university campus in Suryamaninagar, on the outskirts of Agartala.

Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Manik Saha and the university’s Chancellor Ahmad Javed will also address the gathering.

Earlier, the university’s Acting Vice-Chancellor Shaymal Das and Acting Registrar Samir Kumar Shill met the Governor at Lok Bhavan and discussed various aspects related to the convocation arrangements.

Sources said the Vice-President will also offer prayers at the Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur and attend an interaction programme with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and “Lakhpati Didis” in Agartala.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of West Tripura district has issued a notification restricting the movement of goods-carrying trucks from Agartala Airport to Uttam Bhakta Chowmuhani in Sekherkot on March 7 and 8. Authorities have urged transporters to use alternative routes during this period.
