Wife pours acid on husband in a moving bike at Sidhai

The villagers of Bagbari to Chanpur Colony under Sidhai police station of West Tripura district on Thursday gheraoed the police station demanding arrest of a wife, who tries to murder her husband by pouring acid on his body.
Sources said that a woman poured acid on her husband while riding pillion on his motorcycle in West Tripura district. The husband, identified as Shibaji Debbarma, a farmer by profession is now admitted at GBP hospital with burn injuries on his face and neck.
Police said that the condition of the injured husband is stable, they said. Shibaji Debbarma, along with his wife Sumitra Debbarma, was travelling towards Chandpur on his bike on Wednesday. Suddenly, Sumitra poured acid on her husband. He stopped the bike and got down due to severe pain, said Himadri Sarkar, Officer in Charge (OC) of Sidhai police station.
Unaware what had happened, he started screaming for help. His wife again tried to pour more acid on him but could not as the villagers rushed to the incident spot and they immediately shifted him to the GB hospital, said OC.
While, local sources said that Sumitra Debbarma's husband Shivaji Debbarma had given his wife a mobile phone. Then Sumitra Debbarma got involved in an affair through this mobile phone, which Shivaji Debbarma saw. Then he snatched the mobile phone, after which Sumitra Debbarma allegedly tried to kill her husband by mixing poison with rice a few days ago. That attempt also failed. In revenge, Sumitra threw acid on her husband on Wednesday.
Police added that it appeared some domestic issues prompted this acid attack incident and police are investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, police assured the agitated villagers that soon they will arrest the accused wife.
