Woman digital content creator Madhavi Biswas arrested for 'spreading' obscenity, sent 3 days police custody

A woman digital content creator, Madhavi Biswas, who has been arrested by Agartala city police on Sunday, was produced before a local court on Monday with seven days police remand appeal for interrogation on the charge of spreading obscenity through social media and court after hearing both prosecution and defense lawyers, sent her for three-days police remand.
Madhavi Biswas became a popular content creator on Facebook for her unique style of slamming ruling BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb on different issues.
Police acting on a complaint lodged by one Paramita Ghosal of Ramnagar, police team raided the house at Jogendranagar area under East Agartala police station on Sunday and arrested her.
After medical examinations, she was put inside the police lockup of West Agartala Women police station on Sunday and with heavy security, she was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of West Tripura district, where hundreds of people gathered for glimpse of her.
Police added that Biswas was accused of spreading obscenity through social media platforms. A case under various provisions of IT and BNS has been lodged against her and she has been forwarded to the court on Monday for further legal proceedings.
It may be recalled here that a complaint was lodged against her at East Agartala police station last month for slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his brief visit to Maa Tripura Sundari temple. Then, she was detained and questioned by the police and subsequently released.
But, after a complaint lodged by one Paramita Ghosal of Ramnagar, police arrested Mrs Miswas on Sunday under different sections of IT and BNS.
Government advocate Raju Dutta said that Madhavi Biswas was produced before the court of CJM (West Tripura) under West Agartala Women police station case number 123/2025 under different sections of BNS and IT Act with seven days police remand.
The Prosecution team strongly objected to her bail petition and after a long argument between prosecution and defense team of lawyers, the court sent her for three days police remand and again she will be produced before the court on October 30 next.
While speaking with media persons after hearing of the case, defense lawyer and senior advocate purushottam Roy Barman said that for the past few days, the police had been putting pressure on her to stop criticizing the state government on social media but she continued to do so. That's why she has been arrested and claimed that police arrest was against the law of the country.
