Donald Trump will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15
US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska on August 15 to discuss Ukraine's future.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: "The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska."
"Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he said.
Later, a Kremlin spokesperson also confirmed the issue and said the location was "quite logical" given Alaska's relative proximity to Russia, reported BBC.
The spokesperson added that Trump had been invited to Russia for a potential second summit.
One senior White House official told CBS News the planning for next Friday's summit is still fluid, and that it is still possible that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could end up being involved in some way.
Reactions
US Senator for Alaska Lisa Murkowski said she hopes the meeting can reach genuine progress.
"President Trump announced he will meet with President Putin in Alaska next Friday to continue negotiations to end Russia’s catastrophic war in Ukraine. This is another opportunity for the Arctic to serve as a venue that brings together world leaders to forge meaningful agreements. While I remain deeply wary of Putin and his regime, I hope these discussions lead to genuine progress and help end the war on equitable terms," she wrote on X.
