"None of our business": says US Vice President JD Vance on India-Pakistan conflict

By IBNS
May 9, 2025 ..

Vice President JD Vance on Thursday said the US would not intervene in the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan that has escalated further in recent times after gunmen attacked and killed 26 people, mostly non-Muslim tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

“We are concerned about any time when nuclear powers collide and have a major conflict. We want this thing to de-escalate as quickly as possible. We can’t control these countries, as India has its gripes with Pakistan and Pakistan has responded to India,” Vance told Fox News.

“What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate, but we are not going to get involved in the middle of a war that is fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it,” he said.

JD Vance, US Second Lady  Usha Vance and their three children were in India when the Pahalgam attack took place, triggering widespread condemnation.

Two weeks after the attack took place in the popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

India Armed Forces on Thursday neutralised missiles and drones shot by Pakistan, targeting multiple cities in India, which included Amritsar, Jammu, Pathankot, among others.

The Indian Army said in a statement: "On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles.

"These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks," the statement said.

The Indian Ministry of Defence said the Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan.

"Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised," the statement said.

S Jaishankar speaks with Rubio

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said he spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and appreciated US commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism.

Spoke with US @SecRubio this evening.

Deeply appreciate US commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism.

Underlined India’s targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism. Will firmly counter any attempts at escalation.
