One dead in shooting close to a Swedish mosque
At least one person died in a shooting incident close to a mosque in central Sweden on Friday, an incident which the police have described as gang violence-related.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the parking lot located near a mosque in Örebro city.
Several emergency officials rushed to the spot after the shooting.
The deceased person was identified as a 25-year-old person.
Another man was reportedly injured in the incident.
Roberto Eid Forest, head of the local police area Örebro, was quoted as saying by Sweden Herald: "What we know now is that two male persons in their 20-30s were found shot at the parking lot outside the mosque. At least one perpetrator was seen leaving the scene, says Roberto Eid Forest."
He said police have launched a hunt to nab those behind the shooting.
He said the incident is believed to be gang violence-linked.
"I want to emphasise that we currently do not see any connection to the mosque. On the other hand, we see connections to criminal groups in Örebro," he said.
He said the victims were previously known to the police.
"It's obviously very early to say. What we know is that there are connections. We have knowledge of these people who have been shot. The picture I have is that it is targeted at either one of them or both," says Roberto Eid Forest to TT.
Orebro school shooting in February
In February this year, 10 people died in a shooting inside an education centre in Sweden.
The suspected shooter also shot himself dead.
The incident marked one of the deadliest firearms incidents in the country in recent times.
