PTI to demonstrate in Peshawar against alleged rigging in national polls
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will stage a demonstration against alleged rigging in the general polls in Peshawar city of Pakistan on Saturday.
Sources told ARY News that PTI nominated candidate for Chief Minister KP slot Ali Amin Gandapur headed the meeting regarding alleged rigging in elections in Peshawar.
Demonstrations are scheduled to take place in Ring Road Gulistan Park and Ali Amin Gandapur regions of the city.
Sources said that the candidates held the Returning Officer, DC Peshawar Afaq Wazir responsible for rigging in Peshawar elections.
White House voices concern over alleged rigging
The White House has expressed concerns over the allegations that the recently held national polls in Pakistan were not performed in a free and fair manner.
"We’re concerned. And we share our concerns about the — some of the reports that we’ve heard coming out of Pakistan in terms of intimidation, voter suppression, that kind of thing," White House spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Thursday.
"We’re watching this very, very closely," he said.
"And as I understand it, votes are still being tallied. So, international monitors are still taking a look at — at those tallies. I’m not — I’m not going to get ahead of that process," he said.
Pakistan polls
Pakistan voted to elect a new government on February 8.
However, the country plunged into a political crisis with none of the political outfits winning the majority needed to form the government.
Political parties are now trying to forge an alliance and secure 169 seats needed to secure a majority in the 336-member lower house of parliament.
PTI-backed Independent candidates consolidated their lead in the general elections 2024 over mainstream political parties, especially in the National and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies, throughout the result announcement process, reported ARY News.
