Thailand Elections: Opposition parties take strong lead
Bangkok: Voters in Thailand have rejected the military-backed government in the recently held polls as two major opposition parties are now set for coalition talks.
Initial results show the Move Forward and Pheu Thai parties surging ahead of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, reports BBC.
The poll is considered a crucial episode in the country's history which has witnessed several military coups in its recent years.
Seeking another term in office, Prayuth had led the last coup in the country in 2014.
He is currently facing election challenges from two anti-military party leaders Move Forward and Pheu Thai.
Move Forward is led by former tech executive Pita Limjaroenrat, while Paetongtarn Shinawatra - the daughter of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra - is the Pheu Thai candidate, reports BBC.
