Trump imposes 100 percent tariff on non-US films, says 'Hollywood dying a very fast death'
Washington DC/IBNS: Amid his trade war with China, US President Donald Trump has announced a 100 percent tariff on all non-American films in a bid to revive Hollywood, which he claims is "dying a very fast death".

Trump said on Truth Social, "The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated.
"This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!"
Immediately after Trump's announcement, US Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, shared the President's Truth Social post on X and wrote, "We’re on it."

Meanwhile, the US and China are engaged in a trade war that has escalated significantly in the past weeks.
Trump has increased tariffs on most Chinese imports to 145 percent, citing the need to reduce the trade deficit and address issues like fentanyl trafficking.
Certain electronics including mobile phones remain exempt, but the Trump administration has indicated that tariffs could become permanent to encourage domestic manufacturing.
In retaliation, China has slapped a 125 percent tariff on U.S. goods and implemented export restrictions on critical materials such as rare-earth elements.
The US has slapped tariffs of up to 245% on Chinese imports, with syringes, lithium-ion batteries, squid, and wool sweaters among the targeted items.
