The Instagram post was a portrait of Donald Trump looking very determined — and somewhat angry — literally knuckling down on a table at the White House, no doubt to convey his stance following the rout of the Republicans by the Democrats.
Below the image was just one line in a large font. It said: “PSA: Trump is still your President”.
“PSA” stands for “public service announcement, and the fact that Trump had to announce himself to the public as “still your President” — two years into his second term — was the cause for much amusement among Instagram users.
One of the most-liked comments under the White House post was by @arash_kanani, who wrote: “If you have to remind people you’re the boss, you probably aren’t.” This comment got nearly 143K likes.
Another user named @queenbarbarajean said: “Imagine having to remind people you’re the president (with laughter emoji).” This comment got 75.8K likes.
There were 44.8K likes for @julia_mateishen, who said: “Any man who must say, ‘I am the king’ is no true king.’ Game of Thrones”.
This line — a reference to the GoT scene where Tywin Lannister tutors his worthless grandson Joffrey Baratheon — was quoted by several Instagram users.
@christiankanneh asked Trump: “What stage of Grief is this?” and got 67K likes.
A rather sarcastic @djmrfamousnyc reminded Donald Trump of how the Iran war, and the resultant fuel price hike, was burning a hole in American pockets. “Just filled up at the pump for $127. I know who’s still president,” he said.
Indeed, Trump himself has acknowledged that the Iran war cost him votes in the US midterms.
According to a report by The Associated Press, in his first comments on Wednesday, after the “resounding election victory” of the Democrats, ousting Republicans from many seats of the US Congress, Trump “largely agreed” with Vice-President JD Vance, who “publicly ruminated on the war being a catastrophe for Republicans”.
AP quoted Trump as saying: “It’s largely true because it drove gasoline up a little bit.” Does not mean he regretted it. Trump added: “At the same time, if I had to do it again, I’d do it again.”
Trump can find support in the counter-response to @djmrfamousnyc from @p_m_vahid, who sounded a warning about hardline Islam taking over America, and referred to the Ayatollah regime in Iran.
He wrote: “@djmrfamousnyc 50 years ago, in Iran, we gave up our Shah, our humanity, and our peace, and replaced them with people like these. The result? A devastated country and a Middle East consumed by conflict and instability. Today, America and Europe are standing at exactly the same crossroads. Is all this really worth just a few cents more for fuel? If you make the same mistake, your countries will be taken over by evil.”
