You will live in this country without fear: Bangladesh Army chief tells Hindus on Janmasthami
Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman recently joined the Janmasthami celebration in Bangladesh when he said there should not be any kind of discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, race, or community.
The Hindu community members in Bangladesh celebrated the festival dedicated to Lord Krishna last week.
“You will live in this country without fear. We will always stand by your side," the Army Chief was quoted as saying by Prothom Alo.
He remarked at a time when Bangladesh witnessed a spike in attacks against Hindus since the fall of former PM Sheikh Hasina-led government in the country last year.
Bangladesh recently marked the completion of the first year of the fall of the Hasina-led regime.
The Army Chief recently attended the Janmasthami event in Dhaka as the guest of honour.
The festival and central procession were organised by the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Council, Metropolitan Sarbojanin Puja Committee, and Shree Shree Dhakeshwari National Temple, reporetd Prothom Alo.
The Army Chief said, “Today, our pledge is to uphold that harmony and that friendly environment at all times. This country belongs to all of us, and together we will live here in peace and dignity.”
