'We will miss her,' says Zomato CEO on independent director Gunjan Soni’s resignation citing work commitment
New Delhi/IBNS: Gunjan Tilak Raj Soni, the independent director of Indian multinational restaurant aggregator and food delivery company Zomato, has resigned from her position effective immediately due to increasing work commitments.

Soni joined the board before Zomato's IPO in July 2021 and has played a key role in the Gurgaon-based company’s governance since then.
An experienced professional, Soni holds a background in computer science and business management.
She currently serves as the CEO of Zalora Group, a fashion retailer focused on Southeast Asia, and has held senior leadership roles at companies like Myntra, Jabong, Star India, and McKinsey.
In her resignation email, Soni expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve on Zomato’s board over the last three years.
She explained that her decision to step down was driven purely by increased professional responsibilities and praised the board and management team.
Soni emphasized that there were no other factors behind her resignation beyond her expanding professional obligations.
"The need to step down stems from increased professional commitments and was a tough decision. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve on the board under Kaushik's chairmanship and work alongside such talented and dedicated board members and the management team," Soni's resignation email read.
Zomato confirmed her departure in an official stock exchange filing, noting that Soni would also be leaving her roles on the company’s risk management and corporate social responsibility committees.
Reacting to the independent director's resignation, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal thanked Soni for her valuable contributions.
"Her insights have been instrumental in our growth, and while we will miss her presence, we understand and respect her decision," Goyal stated.
The board of Zomato will now adjust to her departure as the company continues to move forward, acknowledging the significant impact she had during her time with Zomato.
