The guides, who are also climate change advocates, were trained by English language Fellow Madison Nunes on public speaking skills, and drafting effective climate advocacy campaigns, for interactions with foreign tourists, non-profits, and other stakeholders.
“Professional development workshop for eco-guides of Sundarban” - a special customised 6 (six) day training program was organised at the smart classroom of SHER’s BAGHBON (the multipurpose community resource centre) located at Pakhirala on the opposite bank of Sajnakhali Wildlife Sanctuary.
Nominated by the Tiger Reserve a first batch of 36 (thirty six) guides were part of the first-of-its-kind training in the landscape.
Ajay Das, IFS, Field Director & CCF (Chief Conservator of Forest), Sundarban Tiger Reserve graced the closing ceremony, handing over the certificates to the participants.
He appreciated the innovative initiative by U.S. Consulate Kolkata and SHER which used language as a tool to enhance the public speaking skills of the eco-tourists, who are the best spokespersons for the ecologically important area often serving as local climate change advocates.
