Music streaming just got a massive upgrade! Dolby, QQ Music unleash next-gen audio tech
Dolby Laboratories, a leader in immersive entertainment experiences, and QQ Music, Tencent Music Entertainment’s (TME) leading music streaming platform, announced the next evolution of Dolby Atmos technology will arrive on QQ Music’s mobile app soon – enabled by Dolby AC-4, Dolby’s flagship audio codec.
With this update, QQ Music will become the first major music streaming platform to support the latest advancements in Dolby AC-4, marking a significant milestone in delivering premium, immersive music experiences at scale.
Through ongoing improvements to Dolby Atmos on QQ Music supported by Dolby AC-4, the experience continues to advance in fidelity and precision while preserving the artist’s creative vision better than ever.
Music remains vivid, dimensional, and emotionally engaging, bringing listeners closer to the artistry behind every recording.
Key advancements include:
Preserving creative intent with exceptional fidelity: With Dolby Atmos, every detail listeners hear from the original mix is now faithfully preserved at a level of quality that is indistinguishable to the listener from the studio reference. Vocals, instruments, and spatial elements are reproduced with clarity and depth, so music sounds exactly as the artist intended – capturing nuance, emotion, and impact.
Headphone listening, fully realized: Building on the Dolby Atmos experience listeners know today, this enhancement delivers a clearer, more natural sense of space. Vocals and instruments feel precisely placed - not crowded or confined. The soundstage feels more stable and defined, bringing out details and depth listeners can actually hear.
“As streaming platforms become the primary medium for music consumption, the quality of the audio experience is more critical than ever,” said Javier Foncillas, Vice President, Commercial Partnerships and Global Sales, Dolby Laboratories. “Our collaboration with QQ Music to introduce the latest advancements in Dolby AC-4 is a strategic move to address this evolution. Together, we are bringing a new level of audio fidelity and clarity to listeners, while providing artists and labels with a more powerful and reliable medium for their creative vision.”
“TME has always been committed to embracing cutting-edge innovations to deliver an extraordinary experience to our users,” said Alan zhou, Vice President of Technology, QQ Music & Kuwo Music, TME. “Our longstanding collaboration with Dolby has always been about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in music streaming. QQ Music is the first major music platform to integrate the latest advancements of Dolby AC-4, delivering greater fidelity, clarity and detail experience to users. We are excited to set a new benchmark in delivering streaming music experiences that are as authentic as they are immersive.”
Dolby and TME’s long-term collaboration began in 2022, when QQ Music became the first Chinese music streaming platform to support Dolby Atmos.
This collaboration has since expanded significantly, with QQ Music becoming the first music streaming platform in China to support Dolby Vision in 2023 and extending its Dolby Atmos Music service to a wide range of devices, including mobile, PC, TV and even automotive, enabling users to have access to their favorite music in Dolby anytime anywhere.
Building on this momentum, TME has also broadened support for Dolby Atmos Music across additional services including Kugou Music and Kuwo Music, and JOOX for international markets.
