Airbag blocked my view, claims 20-year-old law student whose car crashed into vehicles killing 1
Vadodara/IBNS: The 20-year-old law student, whose car crashed into multiple vehicles killing one woman in Vadodara, has claimed his view was blocked by the airbag that had opened inside his four-wheeler, media reports said.
Rakshit Chaurasiya, the driver, told police he was returning from Holika Dahan (a bonfire lit on the eve of Hindu festival Holi) when the incident happened.
Chaurasiya, who was accompanied by a co-passenger, said he was returning after dropping a friend on their way back.
He said as quoted by NDTV, "We were going ahead of a scooty, we were turning right and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car parked near the right turn. Our car touched the scooter and the airbags opened. After that I couldn't tell where the car went."
"I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault and whatever they want should happen."
The accident, which has been captured in the CCTV, took place near Amrapali Chaar Rasta.
The car rammed into a two-wheeler after losing control and hit a number of people on the way.
The crash caused an immediate death of one woman, who has been identified as Hemaliben Patel. Three to four others were injured.
As per the video footage, the accused, who was wearing a black T-shirt, got out of the car in a drunken state and screamed "another round, another round!" and chanted Hindu mantra Om Namah Shivay.
The driver, who was reportedly in an intoxicated state, was taken into custody.
However, Chaurasiya claimed he was not drunk but had consumed Bhaang.
