Huge cache of explosives found near Uttarakhand school, police launch massive hunt
A major security scare hit Uttarakhand’s Almora district after 161 gelatin sticks, weighing over 20 kg, were discovered just metres away from a Government Higher Secondary School in Dabara village, media reports said.
The explosives were first spotted by Principal Subhash Singh, who noticed suspicious packets hidden in bushes near the school.
He immediately alerted the police, triggering a swift response. Two police teams rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area, and called in bomb disposal and dog squads from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital.
During the canine-led search, several packets of gelatin sticks were found scattered in bushes, with more discovered a short distance away.
The bomb squad safely collected and sealed all the explosive material.
SSP Devendra Pincha confirmed the recovery and said police have launched an investigation to determine who brought the explosives and why.
A case has been registered against unknown persons under the Explosive Substances Act and Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
The discovery comes just days after 3,000 kg of explosives were seized in Haryana in connection with the Delhi blast, keeping security agencies on high alert amid fears of potential serial blast plots by terror modules.
Multiple teams are now probing the Uttarakhand recovery as part of nationwide searches.
