India blocks Austrian economist's X handle over 'dismantle India' post
New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian government has blocked Austrian economist Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn's X handle after he posted a controversial message calling to dismantle India, media reports said.
Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn had written, "I call to dismantle India into ExIndia. @narendramodi is Russia's man. We need friends of freedom for @KhalistanNet." (sic)
Accompanying the text, he shared a digitally altered map that depicted large parts of India being assigned to Pakistan, a separate Khalistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh—igniting widespread outrage.
Netizens responded strongly, with X users calling out the attack on India’s sovereignty and demanding governmental intervention.
Politicians and public figures denounced the remarks. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi exclaimed, "What insanity is this? @MEAIndia must take this up with the Austrian Embassy."

The account eventually has been disabled in India.
In 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stop in Austria marked the first official visit by an Indian PM to Austria since Indira Gandhi in 1983.
The visit coincided with 75 years of diplomatic ties between India and Austria—an occasion celebrated by both nations.
