Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan asks students to remain vigilant

The Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, where locals were recently engaged in violent conflict with foreigners, on Tuesday asked students to remain vigilant.


The embassy, however, said the situation in Bishkek continues to remain normal.

"Situation in Bishkek continues to remain normal. Students are, however, advised to remain vigilant and follow the guidelines laid down by the authorities in Kyrgyz Republic. In case of any issue, students can contact the Embassy at 0555710041, 0555005538@MEAIndia," the Embassy said in a post.

Meanwhile, parents from Madhya Pradesh whose children are studying in Kyrgyzstan, where locals have been engaged in a conflict with foreigners in recent times, asked the Indian government to ensure the safe return of their children, media reports said.

According to reports, 15,000 Indian students are currently studying in the country.

Pakistanis repatriated from Bishkek

The Pakistani government recently repatriated 347 students from Bishkek.

Two separate flights carrying the students arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday.

PIA has scheduled two more flights to bring back Pakistani students from Kyrgyzstan — one to land in Islamabad and the second in Lahore, reported Dawn News.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Bishkek on Tuesday when he met students undergoing treatment following the recent violence in Bishkek.

Several Pakistani students were injured in mob violence around student hostels in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek recently.

The violence reportedly erupted due to a harassment incident involving Egyptian female students on May 13.
