Karnataka HC warns of shutting down Facebook in India if not compliant with probe agencies

Bengaluru/IBNS/UNI: Karnataka High Court has warned social media platform Facebook that it would be shut down all over India if it does not cooperate with Indian agencies.

The court made this remark while hearing a case related to an Indian imprisoned in Saudi Arabian jail.

Facebook allegedly was not cooperating with the police in its investigation.

The court directed Facebook to submit a complete report with the necessary information within a week.

It also asked the central government to inform the course of action it has taken so far in the wrongful arrest of the Indian citizen.

Along with this, the Mangaluru Police has been ordered to continue the investigation and submit the report.

In fact, Kavita, a resident of Bikarnakatte in Dakshina Kannada district, had filed a petition in the High Court, complaining that some unidentified people had created fake profiles in the name of husband Shailesh and posted objectionable posts relating to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) against the ruler of Saudi Arabia and Islam.

After this, Kavita lodged a complaint with the Mangaluru Police, and in the meanwhile, the Saudi Arabian police arrested Shailesh Kumar and imprisoned him.

The Mangaluru police started an investigation into the matter and sought information from Facebook about the fake accounts.

However, Facebook did not respond to the information sought by the police.

Kavita filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court for the delay in the investigation in the year 2021.

Kavita also stated that her husband was working in a company in Saudi Arabia for the last 25 years, while she was living with her children at their home near Mangaluru.
