According to Israeli media, the trip was postponed due to security concerns following the deadly terror attack in New Delhi two weeks ago—the city’s worst attack in more than ten years—which left at least 15 people dead and dozens injured.

Quoting sources, i24NEWS reported that “Netanyahu, who last visited India in 2018 and had planned a return visit for talks with PM Modi, is now likely to look for a new date next year after security evaluations.”

Earlier reports had indicated that Netanyahu intended to visit India before the end of the year.

This marks the third time in 2025 that Netanyahu has cancelled a proposed trip to India.

Previously, he called off a one-day visit scheduled for September 9, citing conflicts arising from Israel’s unprecedented repeat elections on September 17.

He had also cancelled a visit earlier in the year due to the April polls.

In Israel, Netanyahu’s planned India visit was widely viewed as part of his attempt to showcase his global acceptance.

In July, his political party displayed campaign banners featuring him alongside PM Modi, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin—framing him as a leader operating on an elevated global stage.

Netanyahu’s election pitch has emphasised his personal rapport with world leaders and portrayed him as a statesman essential to Israel’s security.

Netanyahu last travelled to India in January 2018, while PM Modi visited Tel Aviv in 2017, becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so. The strong personal rapport between the two leaders is frequently highlighted in both the Indian and Israeli media.
