Assam Rifles celebrates National Handloom Day in Haflong, Assam

Dima Hasao: Assam Rifles celebrated National Handloom Day on August 7th, 2024 (Wednesday) in Haflong, Dima Hasao District, Assam. The event was aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Indian handloom industries and supporting local MSMEs and self-help groups.
The event saw active participation from MSME representatives and local self-help groups wherein 30 women artisans showcased various traditional handloom products including shawls, traditional ‘mekala’ and ‘Dimasa’ scarves in the exhibition organized at the event. This initiative of Assam Rifles brought out the significance of the handloom sector and the need to support local weavers and artisans.
In addition to the exhibition, a workshop was also conducted where self-help group representatives provided valuable guidelines and insights to the participants about traditional weaving techniques and sustainable practices in the handloom industry. Assam Rifles also briefed all participants regarding various market strategies to make outreach of their local products in other parts of the country.
