'Fair for me to expect privacy in my own home': Alia Bhatt on 'breach of privacy'
Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood actor-producer Alia Bhatt has opened up about an incident where she was clicked by the media sitting at home from a neighbouring building, an incident that had infuriated the B-Town star and raised questions on privacy.
Speaking to Vogue magazine, Alia referred to the incident and said, "I did feel bad about the incident that took place in February, but I wish news portals picking up the image had been more mindful."
"I feel like websites sometimes don’t know what they’re picking up either. But I just wanted to highlight that they need to be a little more conscious when it comes to actors. There are cameras everywhere and it has become this unspoken rule that when we are in public, we are up for absolute consumption. We can’t stop that.
"But I think it’s fair for me to expect privacy in my own home. Honestly, there’s no beef, no angst, no upsetness. I said what I had to say and received a lot of support for it. And I think people also understood that what I was asking for wasn’t too much," she added.
In February, Alia took to Instagram to slam a media house for allegedly taking photographs of her sitting casually in the living room of her house.
Along with the images, she wrote a furious note that read, "Are you kidding me? I was at my house having a perfectly normal afternoon sitting in my LIVING ROOM when I felt something watching me... I looked up and saw two men on the terrace of my neighbouring building with a camera right at me!"
"In what world is this okay and allowed? This is a gross invasion of someone's privacy! There's a line you just cannot cross and it's safe to say all lines were crossed today!" Alia concluded her note, tagging Mumbai police in her post.
However in the interview with Vogue, Alia has also praised the paparazzi for their gesture by not clicking her daughter Raha's picture on request.
"The paparazzi are like my work family and they have been very respectful. When I travelled back from London last month, all of them put their cameras away immediately at the airport. Not a single picture of Raha was circulated," she said.
Alia and her actor husband Ranbir Kapoor, who tied the nuptial knot in 2022, welcomed their first child in November last year.
On the work front, Alia was seen in consecutive blockbusters, Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Brashmastra, in 2022.
