Wanted to dissociate myself from 'nice, bubbly girl' image: 'Seven' actor Ridhima Ghosh
Actor Ridhima Ghosh thanks filmmaker-actor-singer Anjan Dutt and his upcoming web series Seven for helping her to come out of the "nice, bubbly girl" image which she feels was trapped into over the roles she played majorly in the past. In an exclusive interaction with IBNS correspondent Souvik Ghosh, Ridhima talks about the upcoming Zee5 web series and more
Q. Tell us about your character.
A. I am one of the five childhood friends who go on a trip. I am playing the onscreen wife of Suprobhat (Suprobhat Das, actor). Our bonding seems like a family. Incidentally, they discover a bag full of money which triggers changes in their interpersonal relationships. The grey shades of the characters become evident.
Q. Did you find any shade in your character that had personally interested you?
A. Ah! Yes. My character Namita is a housewife who always wanted to launch a boutique. However, she couldn’t launch it as her marital relationship was not happy. Namita’s character was very difficult for me to portray as she is highly unlike me. So it was a big challenge for me. Anjan-da helped me to understand Namita’s psychology. The audience will be seeing me in a character which is very different from the ones I played earlier.
Q. You must have been craving for a role like this which is so different from you.
A. Absolutely. Unfortunately, actors do get stereotyped mostly. I am always perceived as a nice, bubbly girl onscreen. I needed someone to help me come out of that mould. Anjan-da believed in me that I could play this role. Someone needed to take the risk and give me that opportunity to prove that I could also play different characters. Hopefully I haven’t let him down.
Q. Did you have any conversation with Anjan Dutt regarding getting stereotyped?
A. Yes. Actually it did happen. I had told him that I loved the way Anjan-da explored me with different shades of Namita. I really enjoy the process of thinking of how my character would react differently from the way I would in a particular situation. Acting is a profession where we get an opportunity to play fictitious roles. So it’s not at all exciting to play characters which are almost similar to me.
Q. How do you want to explore OTT?
A. Actually OTT is offering diverse works. A lot of actors are being explored on this platform. But I would like to do much more challenging stuff.
