Hockey: Spirited India beat South Korea 4-1 to lift Asia Cup title

India put up a commanding performance to beat defending title holders South Korea 4-1 in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday, lifting the continental crown for the fourth time and sealing a direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium.
India showed their intensity in front of the home crowd and scored the first blood in just 30 seconds into the game.
Taking India 1-0 up in the high-voltage game, Sukhjeet Singh found the net from a sharp move initiated by Harmanpreet Singh.
India's next goal came in the 28th minute when Dilpreet Singh put the ball into the net in a sharp and clever move.
Dilpreet struck again in the 41st minute to make it 3-0, helping India maintain its dominance over the competing squad.
Nearly throwing the Koreans out of the contest, Amit Rohidas converted a penalty corner in the final quarter with a thundering low strike to extend the lead to 4-0.
Son Dain scored the consolation goal for the visitors in the 56th minute.
Ending their wait for eight years, India added the title to its continental glory after winning the previous editions in 2003, 2007 and 2017.
Indian PM Narendra Modi congratulated the men and wrote on X: "Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for their splendid win in the Asia Cup 2025 held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win is even more special because they have defeated the defending champions, South Korea!"
