United States tops Olympic medals list, India stands at 71
The United States dominated the Olympics 2024 and topped the medals tally with 126 medals in total which include 40 gold.
Paris is gearing up to conclude the 2024 edition of the grand sporting event which will go down in history as one of the glorious and successful events.
Apart from bagging 40 gold medals, the USA also clinched 44 silver and 42 bronze in the showpiece sports meet.
China, despite winning 40 gold medals, ended the game in the second position with 91 overall medals, way behind the USA.
Chinese athletes will take away 27 silver and 24 bronze medals home.
With all the medals given away, the closing ceremony is expected to be as high-voltage like its gala start and if rumours are to be believed Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise may be a part of it.
All attention will now be drawn towards Los Angeles which will host the next edition of the world's biggest sporting platform in 2028.
Japan and Australia stood in the third and fourth positions respectively.
India finished this edition of Olympics with six medals which include one silver and five bronze.
It stood in the 71st position in the medals list.
The world's most populous nation had sent 117 athletes this year.
It had to wait for 13 days to win a silver medal by backing on the shoulder of flag bearer Neeraj Chopra.
Chopra failed to defend the gold he won in Tokyo and lost his title to Pakistan's arch-rival Arshad Nadeem.
India had put up its best performance in Tokyo in 2021 when it clinched seven medals, one more than what has been clinched in Paris.
