Police seized 200 rounds of live ammunition during a routine vehicle checking operation at Maharani under Udaipur subdivision in Gomati district on Thursday morning. One suspected arms smuggler, identified as Jayanta Lal Chakma, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Police sources said that personnel from Maharani police outpost under Radhakishorepur police station were conducting routine ‘Naka’ checking when they intercepted a suspicious vehicle travelling from Udaipur towards Gandacherra.

During a search of the vehicle, police recovered a bag containing 200 rounds of live ammunition. The seizure prompted an immediate investigation, given the sensitive nature of the recovery.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Udaipur, Debanjali Roy rushed to the spot and supervised the initial investigation. The arrested person is being questioned to determine the source of the ammunition, its intended destination and the purpose for which it was being transported.
