Amidst tight security, on the last day of filing nomination papers for February 16 assembly elections, above 100 of nomination papers were submitted so far and heavyweight candidates like Chief Minister along with other ruling BJP candidates and all Congress candidates including Birajit Sinha and Sudip Roy Barman also filed their nomination papers.
The filling of nomination papers starts with a massive rally across Agartala, which has been led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with top BJP leaders has also accompanied with Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee on Monday.
January 30th (Monday) is the last date for filing of nomination papers for the Tripura Assembly elections slated for February 16 and all parties including BJP, its ally IPFT, opposition Congress and Tipra-Motha candidates filed their nomination papers in different parts of the state.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha filed his nomination for 8-Town Bardowali constituency again, the BJP state party president has submitted his nomination for 9-Banamalipur Assembly constituency.
All the BJP nominees for 55 Assembly constituencies submitted their nomination papers on Monday in presence of many top leaders of the party and the former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has accompanied the party candidates in Jubarajnagar in North Tripura district during the filing of nominations.
Official sources said five IPFT candidates, 22 Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates and 16 Congress candidates had filed their nomination papers till Monday afternoon.
Election Commission sources said that till Sunday, altogether 67 nomination papers were received by the Ros and on Monday, the total nomination papers will cross 250 numbers.
Earlier, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura Kiran Gitte said that they are hoping that ROs will receive around 300 nominations on Monday. In the 2018 elections, the poll panel had received around 350 nomination papers, he said.
