The ruling BJP and its alliance partner Tipra Motha Party (TMP) held a crucial meeting on Thursday to finalize their strategy for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, with discussions focusing on seat-sharing, candidate selection and withdrawal of excess nominations.
Sources said the meeting was aimed at ensuring that there is no division of votes between the alliance partners and that joint candidates are fielded in each constituency. The withdrawal of nominations submitted by candidates in excess seats was one of the key issues discussed during the meeting.
The leaders deliberated on the constituencies where additional nominations would be withdrawn and strategies to strengthen organizational campaigns in support of alliance-backed candidates.
BJP leaders, including ministers Ratan Lal Nath and Sushanta Chowdhury, attended the meeting, while TMP was represented by MLA Ranjit Debbarma and Runial Debbarma. The leaders of both parties held detailed discussions on various election-related issues for a considerable period.
After the meeting, TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma informed reporters that a decision had been taken to withdraw excess nomination papers in order to ensure a smooth and organized election process.
He said several issues related to nominations and the prevailing election scenarios were discussed during the meeting, following which necessary decisions were taken at the party level. He added that the matter of candidates and constituency-wise arrangements was also reviewed.
The meeting is being viewed as significant by political observers as BJP and TMP are seeking to further strengthen coordination ahead of the ADC elections. Sources said emphasis was laid on mutual cooperation regarding seat adjustments, withdrawal of candidates and campaign strategies.
The alliance is expected to make a formal announcement regarding the final seat-wise decisions and withdrawal of nominations in the coming days. The exact number of nominations to be withdrawn and the constituencies likely to be affected will be clear after the completion of the process.
