Bodies of two drowned minor girls recovered from Sarama River
In a heart-rending incident, in which two minor girls drowned in the Sarama rive at Gandacherra under Dhalai district on Saturday afternoon, the rescue operational personnel including the NDRF jawans on Sunday afternoon recovered the lifeless bodies of the two minor girls.
Two minor girls identified as Sima Chakma (7) and Santimala Chakma (12) of Brishaketu Para area under Nakkacherra ADC village of Gandacherra subdivision had gone to the bank of river Sarama to collect wild vegetables on Saturday afternoon. When these minor girls after collecting some vegetables were returning to their homes by crossing the river, both of them drowned in the river water.
After the incident was reported, local people along with police, TSR and firefighters jawans launched a rescue operation in the river, but till Saturday evening they were unable to rescue the drowned girl.
On Sunday morning, a group of NDRF jawans rushed to the spot and they launched a massive rescue operation and after searching for four hours, the NDRF jawans recovered the lifeless bodies of two girls. After an autopsy from Gandacherra hospital, the mortal remains of deceased girls were handed over to their relatives for last rites.
