Cong urges govt to take steps to stop post-poll violence
Though, Tripura government claims a rule of law prevails across the state, but in reality after two and half months, the post poll violence has been continuing, which is now unabated and opposition supporters are being attacked daily, claims Congress.
Speaking with media persons after extended Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) meeting at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Friday, PCC president and MLA Birajit Sinha alleged that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha says rules law prevails in the state and his government will not tolerate any kind of violence or any miscreant activities, but in reality after months, still ruling supporters are continuing their rampage upon opposition supporters and physically attacking them, destroying their properties.
He urged the state government to take active steps to stop post-poll violence and ensure the democratic rights of all opposition supporters.
Sinha said that at Friday's meeting the leaders of PCC had detailed discussion over the post-poll scenario and to take measures to strengthen their grass-root organizations as per guidelines framed by All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Later, speaking with media persons, senior party leader and former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha said that many workers and leaders from different parts of the state had expressed their opinion that if the Congress could fight more seats in the recently held assembly elections, then more workers can actively participate in the campaign, which may lead to more seats for party candidates.
While, Saha also urged the state government and police administration to take more active action to stop violence and atrocities upon opposition supporters.
