Due to the prolonged absence of a regular Superintendent of Police (SP) in Gomati district, serious questions are being raised regarding the pace and efficiency of the police administration.
A section of the district's residents has alleged that this vacancy is severely impacting crucial administrative decisions and the timely resolution of public grievances.
It may be recalled here that, following the transfer of the former Superintendent of Police, Dr. Kiran Kumar, the state government has reportedly not yet appointed a regular SP for Gomati district. As a result, many feel that the district's police administration is effectively functioning without steady, consistent leadership.
On the other hand, a section of the locals claims that most of the officials serving in the district's top administrative posts are non-Bengali speakers. Consequently, many uneducated and semi-educated villagers feel hesitant to voice their problems directly. They express that due to these language barriers, they are often unable to approach the District Magistrate (DM) or high-ranking police officials.
Although Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) do receive various complaints, the matters frequently have to escalate all the way up to the District Magistrate level. Complainants argue that they would not need to take matters that far if there were no language barriers. According to them, being able to communicate easily in the local language would ensure a much quicker resolution to the problems of the common people.
Meanwhile, the long-term absence of a regular SP has also triggered concerns regarding the district's law and order situation and the momentum of administrative work. It is worth noting that despite the state's Chief Minister visiting Udaipur twice this month, no announcement has yet been made regarding the appointment of a regular SP for Gomati district.
Demands for the immediate appointment of a full-time Superintendent of Police are now growing louder across various sections of the district.
