Along with the nationwide “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” (Drug-Free India Campaign), the Tripura government has intensified its efforts under the “Nasha Mukt Tripura” initiative and to further strengthen this mission and accelerate anti-drug awareness activities, “Nasha Mukt Saptaha” (Drug-Free Week) is being observed across the state from June 17 to June 26, 2026.

Preparations are also underway for the observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.

As part of the campaign, a press conference was held at the Circuit House in Kailashahar under Unakoti district on Thursday, which was addressed  by Unakoti District Magistrate (DM) Megha Jain, Additional District Magistrate Sagar Shovan Debnath, District Social Welfare Officer (DISE) Bidyasagar Debbarma, and other senior administrative officials.

Addressing the media, DM Megha Jain outlined the roadmap for the week-long campaign. She stated that, along with the district administration, all government line departments have joined hands to implement the programme successfully. The primary objective is to eliminate the menace of drug abuse from society and create awareness, particularly among students and young people.

To promote awareness among students, various schools across the district are organizing debate competitions, poster-making contests, and slogan-writing competitions. In addition, a series of awareness programmes, mass rallies, and street plays (Nukkar Natak) are being conducted throughout the district to educate the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Such awareness campaigns and street theatre performances are already being carried out successfully in different parts of the district.

The District Magistrate further informed that the district-level concluding event will be held on June 24. During the programme, students from various schools and colleges who participated in and excelled in the competitions will be felicitated and awarded.

Subsequently, the state-level observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking will be organized in Agartala on June 26.

Concluding the press conference, District Magistrate Megha Jain appealed to people from all sections of society in Unakoti district to actively support and participate in the campaign. She emphasized that the vision of a “Drug-Free Tripura” and a “Drug-Free India” can only be achieved through collective efforts and active public participation.
