Killer of wife get life imprisonment

The district and session court of West Tripura district on Saturday pronounced rigorous life imprisonment to a husband under section 302 and 324 of IPC for murder of his wife.

Giving details of the case, public prosecutor advocate Biswajit Deb said that on April 15, 2021, one accused Ratan Debnath of Tulakuna-Nagicherra under Ranirbazar police station issuing family dispute killed his wife Pratima Debnath (41) by attacking her with an axe and has also assaulted his two sons.

After the incident, severely injured Pratima Debnath was shifted to GB Hospital, where visiting doctors declared her brought dead.

Later, on April 16, 2021 police registered the FIR and arrested accused Ratan Debnath. After hearing of the case, additional district and session judge Govinda Das sentenced rigorous life imprisonment under section 302 of IPC and imprisonment of 2 more years under section 324 of IPC. The case was investigated by SI Mithun Saha and submitted the charge-sheet in a short-period.

Advocate Deb said that after recording the statements of witnesses, the additional district and sessions judge of Wets Tripura district Govinda Das pronounced the judgement.
