One day CPI (M) state committee meet held, Sitaram, Karat joins
The one-day state committee meeting of the opposition CPI(M) held on Monday in presence of party’s general secretary Sitaram Yechury, politburo members Prakash Karat and Manik Sarkar over their organizations and future political programmes of the party.
Sources said that Monday’s state committee meeting of the party is the third meeting after the assembly poll debacle and within the last three months, with change of present political perspective, the three state committee meeting has stressed on how to strengthen the party bases in tribal areas with induction of more leaders from the young generation.
While, before beginning of the meeting, CPI (M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chaudhury said that the issue of how to strengthen the party will be discussed in detail in today's meeting and they will also have discussion over the future programmes of the party.
He said that after the meeting, the discussion points and agenda of the party will be shared through a media briefing on Tuesday.
He also said that today’s meeting is a part of their monthly state committee meeting and there is nothing unusual.
Sources added that the CPI (M) state committee is reportedly having discussions to give a new shape to the party as well as to induct new and younger leaders to the forefront to attract more youths to the party fold.
After poll debacles, there has been decline in political programmes of the party in Agartala as well as other parts of the state due to continuous post-poll violence. Even, majority of 11 elected MLAs of the state are still unable to visit their respective constituencies and the state committee had also detailed discussion over the mobilization of party workers and leaders across the state over people’s demands.
Sources said that as per agenda the leaders and members of state committee have also discussed ways and measures of coping with the political threat posed by BJP and ‘Tipra Motha’ in view of the upcoming elections to the Lok Sabha.
The CPI (M) state committee, highest policy making body, had held a meeting on April 19 in the party headquarter within little more than a month the meeting is being held again on Monday to take stock of the situation in the post-election scenario in presence of party’s all India general secretary Sitaram Yechury, politburo members Prakash Karat, Manik Sarkar.
Sources said that the party leadership is concerned that a large number of local leaders and cadres have been staying away from various programmes of the party undertaken since the election.
CPI (M) sources added that the party will also initiate special measures to regain its lost base in the tribal areas taken over by parties like the ‘Tipra Motha’ and IPFT.
