Pre-Monsoon rain bring respite, lightning kills 2, injured 5
The first bout of pre-Monsoon rain on Thursday , which brought respite from scorching heat and long dry conditions, has caused two fatalities in Golaghati area of Bishalgarh and Santir Bazar subdivisions in lightning while five other persons sustained injuries and underwent treatment in hospitals.
Sources said that with the first spell of thunderstorm and lightning in isolated places of Tripura in the pre-Monsoon season, one farmer identified as Badal Dey (60) , busy with cultivation works in his agriculture field died on the spot after lightning struck him.
Later, he was shifted to Bishalgarh subdivision hospital, where a visiting doctor declared him dead.
Sources said that five more persons of Bishalgarh subdivision identified as Basanti Saha (21) of Jangalia area, Pabitra Das (65) of East Laxmibill, Kulsum Bibi (28) of Aravinda Nagar, Sumitra Sarkar Bhowmik (36) of North Brajapur and Chandan Debnath of Champamura area were also suffered injuries after lightning struck on them and were admitted to Tripura Medical College (TMC) and GB Hospital.
Another youth identified as Shailendra Reang (32) of Devipur village under Santir Bazar subdivision of South Tripura district had also suffered critical lightning injuries, when he was busy in his Jhum field. After severe lightning struck, Shailendra Reang was shifted to Santir Bazar district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
