Six including 3 women smugglers arrested with Ganja from railway stations
In two separate operations, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and police personnel from East Agartala police station seized large quantities of dry cannabis from Agartala railway station and Jogendranagar station and arrested six drug smugglers including three women.
Giving details officer-in-charge (OC) of GRP Agartala railway station, Tapash Das said that based on secret information, a joint contingent of GRP and police personnel from Jirania police station detained four suspected persons before they board a long distance train from Agartala station.
During search, police recovered a total of 47.1 kilograms of dry Cannabis (Ganja) from three separate trolly bags under the possessions of four drug smugglers including three women identified as Sabita Paul (34) of Bishalgarh, Rinku Nama (34) of Amtali, Mamata Shil (40) of Bishalgarh and Mithun Chakraborty (35) of Silchar under Cacher district of Assam.
He said all arrested Ganja smugglers would be produced before a local court on Wednesday in a case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 with police remand appeals for further interrogation.
In another raid, the police personnel from East Agartala police station raided a Jogendranagar railway station and detained two suspected Ganja smugglers on Tuesday afternoon, who were ready to board a train.
Giving details, OC of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee said that during in the bags of two persons identified as Rashel Miah of Sonamura and Kamal Krishna Dey of Moloynagar area under West Tripura district, police recovered a total of 35 kgs of dry Ganja, worth of Rs. 2.5 lakh. He said that both arrested smugglers would also be produced before a local court under NDPS Act case with police remand appeals to find out their network routes.
