Superintendent of Police, South Tripura District, Shri Mourya Krishna C, IPS, chaired a district crime conference at the SP Office Conference Hall in Belonia on Wednesday to review crime trends and the law and order situation ahead of the TTAADC Village Committee Elections scheduled for September 28.

In South Tripura, polling will be held across 70 Village Committees, 306 constituencies and 538 seats, with 177 polling stations. Across the state, the elections will cover 587 Village Committees, 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats. The final electoral rolls include 9,61,977 electors, with 1,550 polling stations statewide. Polling will take place from 7 am to 4 pm, while counting of votes is scheduled for October 5.

Reviewing the security arrangements, the Superintendent of Police said adequate deployment of Central Armed Police Forces, Tripura State Rifles and district police would be made to cover every polling station in the district. Approximately 1,200 security personnel are expected to be deployed for the elections.

Polling stations have been categorised as hyper-critical, sensitive and normal, with graded security deployment planned accordingly. Block-level strong rooms will be secured with armed guards and round-the-clock surveillance.

Ahead of the elections, area domination exercises, mobile patrolling and intensified vehicle checking at Nakas, including inter-district and border points, will be carried out to ensure peaceful polling. Preventive action is also being taken against elements likely to disturb public peace, while the Model Code of Conduct is being enforced.

The police will maintain strict checks on the movement of illegal arms, narcotics, liquor and unaccounted cash. The Superintendent of Police directed all SDPOs and Officers-in-Charge to act firmly against criminal elements, maintain public order in their respective jurisdictions and remain in close coordination with the civil administration and election machinery.
