Three children drown in river Khowai, another critically ill
In a tragic incident, three children – two girls and a boy -- drowned in the floating river water of Khowai and another minor boy was critically ill when they all went to the river for bathing.
Sources said that while taking bath, two grand son Saptadip Nama (7) and granddaughter Moutusi Das (11) of Gopal Das of West Ganki Gram Panchayat of Paharmura went to the river Khowai along with another 10 years old girl Babli Roy. But all of them drowned in the river water in front of their grand-father. Immediately, Gopal Das raised his alarm and some local youths rushed to the spot and started searching for them in the deep river water.
Another six-year-old male child Ayan Das was rescued by his grandfather, who was accompanied by all the four children.
Later, Fire and Emergency Services personnel along with some local residents recovered bodies of Saptadip Nama and Babli Roy and shifted to Khowai district hospital, where a visiting doctor declared them brought dead.
But, the rescue team and local youths were unable to recover Moutusi Das; grand-daughter of Gopal Das and after one and half hours massive search, the local villagers recovered the lifeless body of Moutusi.
Sources added that both Saptadip Nama and Moutusi Das went to their grand-father house in Paharmura village to spend their summer vacation. But, the excitement to take bath in river water has cast a shadow of deep grief and mourning in the entire village.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has also expressed deep grief over the sudden death of three children and urges the parents to be more careful over their children to protect them from accidents.
