The Department of Physical Education, Tripura University, in collaboration with the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation (ACF), organized a Yoga Awareness Cycle Rally on Saturday as part of the observance of the International Day of Yoga 2026.

The rally aimed to promote healthy living by highlighting the combined benefits of yoga and cycling. The event focused on encouraging physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy ageing, environmental awareness, and sustainable lifestyles. The initiative also received support from the Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI), Tripura, in spreading awareness about the significance of the International Day of Yoga.

The rally was flagged off by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shymal Das in the presence of Registrar Prof. Samir Kumar Shil, Head of the Department of Physical Education Prof. Sudip Das, senior professor Prof. Prasanta Das, and Programme Coordinator Dr. Sanjib Kumar Bhowmik.

More than 100 cyclists, including students, faculty members, members of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, and fitness enthusiasts, participated in the event. The rally began from the Tripura University campus, passed through Bottala, and returned to the campus after covering a 17-km route, spreading the message of fitness, yoga, environmental consciousness, and healthy living among the public.

A major highlight of the event was the participation of six-year-old Master Shreyas Bhowmik, son of Dr. Sanjib Kumar Bhowmik, who successfully completed the entire 17-km ride alongside experienced cyclists. As one of the youngest participants, Shreyas displayed remarkable determination, enthusiasm, and endurance, earning appreciation from all those present. His achievement underscored the importance of encouraging children to adopt healthy lifestyles and engage in outdoor physical activities from an early age.

The organizers urged parents to motivate their children to take up cycling and other outdoor activities to promote physical fitness, self-confidence, discipline, and environmental awareness.

Among those present were Gopesh Debnath, PEFI Games Coordinator, Tripura, and SAI Coordinator, along with members of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, university faculty, students, and fitness enthusiasts.

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers emphasized the close relationship between yoga and cycling, noting that both contribute significantly to physical health, mental well-being, and a sustainable future. They thanked all participants for their enthusiastic involvement and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting fitness, sportsmanship, environmental awareness, and sustainable lifestyles through similar initiatives in the future.
