Pakistan: Indian Sikh family falls victim to robbery in Lahore by thieves wearing police uniforms
In a shocking incident that has left a family from Kurukshetra, India, traumatized, a group of robbers clad in police uniforms targeted them on 29th November 2023 in Lahore.
The victims, who were on a pilgrimage to Nankana Saheb to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary and attend the Akhand Path ceremony, fell prey to the cunning criminals in the bustling Liberty Market area of Model Town in Gulberg.
According to the harrowing account provided by the Indian Sikh family, the criminals, posing as legitimate police officers, intercepted them under the guise of routine passport checks.
Seizing the opportunity, the robbers proceeded to loot the family of items amounting to a staggering INR 10 lakh. Among the stolen possessions were wristwatches, a cell phone, a wallet, diamond jewelry, and a significant amount of cash.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Sikh community, both in India and Pakistan, highlighting the vulnerability of pilgrims who travel to sacred sites for religious observances.
The family had undertaken this journey to pay obeisance to Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, and to participate in the Akhand Path ceremony, a revered tradition in the Sikh faith.
Disturbingly, the local police team handling the case has come under scrutiny for attempting to misrepresent the nature of the crime. Initial reports suggest that the authorities tried to categorize the robbery as a case of fraud, potentially in a bid to downplay the severity of the incident.
This has raised concerns among the victims and their community, who fear that justice may be compromised if the true nature of the crime is not acknowledged.
The Sikh family, still reeling from the traumatic experience, is urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The international Sikh community, known for its strong bonds and solidarity, has rallied behind the victims, emphasizing the need for heightened security to tackle such criminal activities.
As the investigation unfolds, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by religious pilgrims during their sacred journeys and the importance of robust security measures to safeguard their well-being. The international community will be closely watching as authorities work to apprehend the criminals and deliver justice to the victims of this shocking robbery in Lahore.
