Police told CBS News that they received a 911 call at around 10 p.m. reporting a shooting on Crescent Street near Stanley Avenue in East New York.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Singh suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Surveillance footage obtained by CBS News New York appeared to show two men involved in a confrontation in the street, followed by a flash of light believed to be gunfire. One of the men was then seen falling to the ground, while the other fled the scene in a car.

Police have not made any arrests so far, and the investigation remains underway.

Anthony Santos, who works nearby, told CBS News he was shocked by the incident and said, “Absolutely, like, shocked. Like, I’m afraid.”

Meanwhile, Singh’s father, Pyara Lal, told NDTV that his son had travelled to the US 13 years ago after taking out a loan, hoping to build a better life and support his parents in India.

Lal said his son had taken on a heavy debt burden to move to the US and faced numerous hardships for years after arriving there. Despite the difficulties, he continued working to build a livelihood and help his family back home.

Singh’s death has left his family in India devastated as authorities continue efforts to identify the shooter and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
