In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is open to all.”
Trump contrasts deal with the Obama-era Iran nuclear agreement
Comparing the proposed agreement with the 2015 Iran nuclear deal brokered under former President Barack Obama, Trump said his administration’s approach was the “exact opposite.”
He criticised the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), referring to Obama as “Barack Hussein Obama,” and claimed the earlier deal would have accelerated Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon.
“The JCPOA was an easy, beautiful, smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon… My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, a wall to no nuclear weapons,” Trump wrote.
He further asserted that Iran no longer seeks a nuclear weapon and would not be able to obtain one through any means, including development or procurement.
Claims on nuclear material and security measures
In his post, Trump also suggested that the United States would take custody of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and destroy it.
“At the appropriate time… we will go in and get the Nuclear Dust… and downblend and destroy it,” he said, referencing the use of B-2 bombers in the operation.
He added that the process could take place either in Iran or the United States, and expressed hope for continued cooperation with Tehran and the wider Middle East.
Warning amid optimism over agreement
Despite his optimistic tone, Trump also issued a warning, saying that if the agreement is not implemented as planned, the US would have an “ultimate alternative,” without providing further details.
“Hopefully, this process will all work out quickly, easily, and smoothly,” he said.
Iran contradicts signing timeline
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has cast doubt on the timeline announced by Trump.
Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told the media that the memorandum with the United States would not be signed on Sunday, adding that any date remained uncertain due to ongoing hesitation from the other side.
He noted that while a signing in the coming days could not be ruled out, no final schedule had been confirmed.
