Speaking in the state assembly, the CM said the singer’s demise was a “plain and simple murder” and that “one person killed him, others helped him.”

"It is a murder. We will pursue the murder case," he said.

Sarma added that the motive behind the crime “will shock the people of the state.”

Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore, reportedly drowned. At the time, he was attending the celebration of 60 years of India–Singapore diplomatic ties as part of the Indo-ASEAN Year of Tourism.

In response to the allegations, Assam has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID to probe the circumstances surrounding his death.

The SIT has conducted raids in Assam at three locations linked to individuals close to Garg, including his manager Siddharth Sharma, festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and a sound engineer.

Further intensifying the case, Garg’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has publicly claimed that Sharma and Mahanta poisoned Zubeen while on a yacht in Singapore.

Meanwhile, DSP Sandipan Garg, who is also the singer’s cousin, has been arrested and is currently in custody.

Others connected to the case—including his manager, event organiser, and some of his personal security officers (PSOs)—remain under investigation.

Best known for the massively popular 'Ya Ali' song from the 2006 film Gangster, Zubeen sang in 20 languages including Assamese, Hindi and Bengali.

Sung for several other Hindi films like Fiza, Kaante, Dil Tu Hi Bataa, Chup Chup Ke, and more.

Though Bollywood gave him recognition, he continued to focus on Assamese music as his primary passion.
