Purnam Kumar Shaw was handed over to Indian authorities at the check post in Attari.

“Today at 1030 hrs Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw has been taken back from Pakistan by BSF at Attari Wagha border. Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw had inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan territory, while on operational duty in area of Ferozepur sector on April 23, 2025 around 1150 hrs and detained by Pak Rangers,” BSF said in a statement.

“With the consistent efforts of BSF through regular flag meetings with Pakistan Rangers and through other communication channels, the repatriation of BSF constable has become possible," the statement said.

Shaw accidentally crossed the border in Punjab on April 23, just a day after the Pahalgam massacre that left 26 people, mostly non-Muslim tourists, killed.

The incident drew worldwide condemnation.

Pahalgam Attack

It was the first major terror attack registered in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam incident in 2019.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 when Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror hubs in PoK and Pakistan in response to the killing of 26 tourists by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in Pahalgam on April 22.

Pakistan targeted several Indian cities with drones and missiles, which were neutralised by India's state-of-the-art air defence system. India dealt a heavy blow to Pakistan, targeting its air bases and air defence system.

India Expels Pakistani Official

The Indian government on Tuesday expelled a Pakistani diplomat, who was working in the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, citing alleged involvement in espionage activities.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said: "The Government of India has declared a Pakistani official, working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, persona non grata for indulging in activities not in keeping with his official status in India."

"The official has been asked to leave India within 24 hours. Charge d’ Affaires, Pakistan High Commission, was issued a demarche to this effect today," the statement further said.

The official has been expelled at a time when India and Pakistan are engaged in a conflict and holding a fragile ceasefire.
