In a successful operation, the police personnel from East Agartala police station has recovered a gold chain snatched from a woman during her morning walk in the Jogendranagar area of Agartala. Two snatchers were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of East Agartala police station, Krishnadhan Sarkar said that a gold chain was snatched from a woman in the Jogendranagar area on September 11. During the investigation, police arrested two accused persons. One of them is currently in judicial custody, while the other is in police remand.
During interrogation of the accused in police custody, police learned that the snatched gold chain had allegedly been pledged with a gold loan agency for approximately Rs 1.28 lakh. Police subsequently recovered the chain from the concerned establishment and took it into their custody.
According to the OC, the recovered gold chain has an estimated market value of around Rs 2 lakh.
Police are investigating whether any other persons were involved in the incident. The OC also said that regular police patrolling would be intensified in different parts of the city during the upcoming Puja days to prevent snatching and other criminal activities.
