No script compulsory for Kokborok language: CM
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday made it clear that no script is compulsory for answering Kokborok question in the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by Tripura Board of Secondary Education(TBSE).
He was responding to a calling attention notice given by Tipra-Motha MLA and opposition leader Animesh Debbarma in the state assembly on Tuesday.
Chief Minister said his attention has been drawn to a news published in several news papers regarding the script issue but on investigation it was found baseless. However the state government sought the opinion of the TBSE in this regard.
The board informed that they are preparing question for Kokborok in Bengali script from the beginning and the students also was using Bengali script while answering. However, in 2022, it was noticed that in Madhyamik out of total 3235 Kokborok speaking examinees 55 used Roman script while answering. Similarly, in Higher Secondary examination out of total 2605 examinees 45 answered in Romal script. That means only 1.71% students used Roman script while answering. The board, considering the interest of the students evaluated the answer scripts written in Roman script.
It further clarified that, like last year, this year also there were no presser on the students about using any particular script.
However, the reply could not satisfy the Tipra-Motha members as the rushed to the well of the house and raised slogan. Later they walked out of the house protesting the government action.
